Sound Power Level — In-Situ Reference Source Method
This engineering/survey method determines sound power levels using a calibrated reference sound source to account for acoustic environmental conditions during in-situ measurements. It is particularly useful for large or immobile equipment where laboratory testing is impractical, and for on-site verification of noise compliance. The reference source approach compensates for acoustic environmental effects, improving accuracy compared to basic survey methods. Accreditation ensures proper reference source maintenance and measurement protocols are followed. This method is essential for field acceptance testing and environmental noise assessments.
What it measures
- Sound power level (Lw) referenced to 1 pW
- A-weighted and frequency-weighted sound power
- Environmental acoustic correction factors
- In-situ acoustic performance
