Pneumatic Brake Systems for Railway Rolling Stock

UIC 540 establishes technical requirements and test procedures for pneumatic (air) brake systems on freight and passenger trains throughout the European railway network. This standard covers design, performance, safety, and interoperability of brake components including cylinders, valves, pipes, and control systems. Railway manufacturers, brake suppliers, and infrastructure operators require testing to ensure compliance, validate equipment compatibility across different networks, and demonstrate safety performance.
