Scope
UIC 541-1
Railway Brake Blocks Homologation Testing
This test establishes the homologation (type approval) conditions and performance criteria for new types of brake blocks intended for use on European railway vehicles. It defines the testing protocols, acceptance criteria, and documentation requirements that manufacturers must meet to gain approval for market use. Brake blocks must demonstrate consistent friction coefficient, wear resistance, thermal stability, and compatibility with various disc types and operating conditions. Accreditation for homologation testing is mandatory for brake block manufacturers and ensures that only proven, safe brake components are deployed on European rail networks, protecting operational safety and enabling interoperability.
