Railway Interior Noise Measurement

ISO 3381 specifies standardized measurement procedures for determining sound pressure levels inside railbound passenger and freight vehicles under operating conditions. This test assesses passenger comfort, crew exposure, and compliance with occupational and environmental noise limits within train cabins and compartments. Manufacturers, operators, and occupational health consultants use these measurements to evaluate cabin acoustic quality, design noise control improvements, and ensure regulatory compliance. Accreditation guarantees consistent, defensible interior noise assessments that support both passenger safety and worker health protection.

What it measures

  • A-weighted sound pressure level inside vehicle (dB(A))
  • Noise levels at driver/operator positions
