Reaction-to-Fire Testing

Reaction-to-fire tests classify the fire behaviour of construction products under the European Euroclass system (EN 13501-1). They measure ignitability, flame spread, heat release, smoke production, and flaming droplets. Euroclass classification is mandatory for construction products placed on the EU market under the Construction Products Regulation (CPR).

What it measures

  • Ignitability (Class E -- single flame source)
  • Flame spread and heat release rate (Classes B/C/D -- SBI test)
  • Smoke production (s1/s2/s3 sub-classification)
  • Flaming droplets (d0/d1/d2 sub-classification)
  • Non-combustibility (Class A1/A2 -- furnace + calorimeter)
